Assam Special TET LP and UP 2026  Overview


The Education Department of the Government of Assam perform a very vital role in the upliftment of the quality of education in Assam. It oversees general education, aiming to provide accessible, quality learning for all with distinct Directorates for Elementary (DEE) and Secondary/Higher Education (DSE, DHE). It manages different stages focusing on enrollment, infrastructure, inclusive access (SC/ST/EWS) and implementing digital initiatives, teacher development. Also focusing for holistic skill development all under the Minister of Education.


The Education Department of the Government of Assam invites new online applications for the special TET across Assam state. Qualified applicants can apply for the TET exam and can advance their careers in the teaching sector. The online application period is from 7th January to 7th February 2026.

Eligibility Criteria


I. For Lower Primary TET (Classes I to V)


Educational Qualification: 


1. Applicant must have passed Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education.


OR


2. Applicants must have passed Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and 4 year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B. El.Ed.)


OR


3. The applicants must have passed a Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 2 year Diploma in Education/Special Education.


OR


4. Applicants must possess a Graduation and 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education.


II. For Upper Primary TET (Classes VI to VIII)


Educational Qualification:


1. The applicant must possess a Graduation and 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education.


OR


2. Applicants must possess at least 50% marks in Graduation and B.Ed.


OR


3. The applicants must have at least 55% marks in Post Graduation or its equivalent grade and 3 year Integrated B.Ed, M.Ed.


OR


4. The applicants must have passed a Senior Secondary with at least 50% marks and 4 year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed).


OR


5. The applicants must possess a Senior Secondary or its equivalent with at least 50% marks and 4 year B.A./B.Sc., B.Ed, or B.A. B.Ed/B.Sc., B.Ed.


OR


6. The applicants must possess a Graduation with at least 50% marks and 1 year B.Ed .(Special Education).


Age Limit: Not mentioned.


Residency: The applicants must be permanent residents of the State of Assam.


Exam Pattern


Exam mode: Offline (OMR-based)


Medium of Exam: Assamese, Bengali, Bodo and English.


Duration of Exam: 2 hrs 30 mins (for both Paper I & II).


Date of Exam: To be Updated.


Type of Questions: Objectives (MCQs).


Total number of questions: 150 


Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking.


Qualifying marks:


1. Applicants have to score 60% i.e. 90 marks out of 150 to qualify the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET).


2. The applicants belong to SC/ST (Hills)/ST (Plain)/OBC/MOBC/PWD (PH), there will be a relaxation of 5%. The qualifying marks will be 83 out of 150 i.e. 55%.


Validity of TET Certificate: The validity of Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) Certificate is Lifetime.

1. For Paper I


i) Child Development and Pedagogy (Compulsory):30 questions.


ii) Language I (Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar- Compulsory): 30 questions.


iii) Language II (English- Compulsory): 30 questions.


iv) Mathematics (Compulsory): 30 questions.


v) Environmental Studies (Compulsory): 30 questions.


2. For Paper II


i) Child Development and Pedagogy (Compulsory): 30 questions.


ii) Language I (Bodo, Garo, Manipuri and Hmar- Compulsory): 30 questions.


iii) Language II (English- Compulsory): 30 questions.


iv) (a) For Mathematics and Science Teacher- Mathematics and Science: 60 questions. 


OR


iv) (b) For Social Science (Studies) Teacher- Social Science (Studies): 60 questions.


iv) (c) For any other teacher - either iv (a) or iv (b)  Environmental Studies.

For Paper I & II


1. For General category candidates: Rs. 550/-


2. For SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/OBC/MOBC category candidates: Rs. 450/-


3. For PWD(PH) category candidates: Rs. 300/-
